With a new baby coming, it was extremely important for me to still have a dedicated place for Sophia to have one on one cuddle time with mommy or daddy. Therefore, we wanted to be sure to have a cozy corner in Sophia's room for story time, nap time and bedtime cuddles and whenever else she may need or want extra cuddles.

There were a few elements we needed to make this little corner in Sophia's room more cozier which included:

Seating 

Having a comfortable seating area is probably the most important aspect of creating a cozy corner whether it be floor seating or an actual chair. This particular rocking chair is the one we bought when Sophia was a newborn. We have debated on reusing it for the new baby but again I felt it was just as important for Sophia to have a comfy chair to curl into mommy's lap so it will remain in her room.

Blankets

Of course adding layers can make any space more cozier and I am a sucker for throw blankets plus we were fortunate enough to get a ton of handmade knit blankets for Sophia and this corner is the perfect place to display them and use them to warm up with.

Pillows

Again, the more layers you add, the cozier. We originally bought this pillow for our master bedroom but Sophia loved the black and white print as a newborn so I thought it was the perfect addition to her cozy corner.

Side Table

Because a lot of story times happen in this area, a table is a must have to place our books on that we are currently reading as well as to hold our cups or bottles.

Rug

A rug really helps ground this little area and not to mention this particular rug is extremely soft on our feet. I just love rubbing and digging my feet into this rug. Would you believe that it is machine washable? I also love the fact that it is made with all natural dyes, handmade, eco and contain no VOCs like most carpeting and rugs making it the perfect addition to any toddler room as it is truly family friendly. This design is my favorite for a child's room or play area because when we are playing on the floor, Sophia will point to the letters which gives us the opportunity to encourage her to learn the alphabet. Who knew a rug could be so much more than a rug? I highly recommend you check out Lorena Canals Rugs as they have rugs not just for children spaces but for sophisticated adult spaces as well.




This corner is one of my favorite spaces throughout our entire house especially as it allows that extra cuddle time with my sweet girl who is normally running all over the place exploring everything within sight and reach.



How do you create special one on one moments with your oldest?

The time has finally come my friends to share Sophia's nursery with you all. It's funny that this journey started in December of 2015 with a goal to be finished by March 2016, ha. That clearly did not happen as we are already more than halfway through 2017. All in all, I am sort of glad that it took this long to complete as it gave me time to finalize certain details that I was unsure of without feeling rushed to do so. Although I must admit, we only spent about $100 on this room. How? Everything was gifted or was purchased with gift cards or monetary gifts Sophia received from our baby showers, Christmas and her first birthday. So my biggest advice for anyone designing a nursery or a toddler room is to save up those gift cards and monetary gifts to be used where actually needed. Sophia has plenty of toys and clothes that she is gifted throughout the year that we rarely need to spend any of those monetary gifts on those items.

Back in January I shared a small update of Little Love's nursery showcasing her crib and bedding and a few weeks ago, I shared a tutorial for the fabric kites hanging above Sophia's crib. I decided it was time for another update so today I am sharing all about the craigslist dresser I've talked about a few times and the pros and cons of our corner shelves.

Unless you follow me on Instagram, you may be unaware that we had a little flood issue and when I say little I mean huge. All the floors and most baseboards had to be replaced in our entire house, the only area that was not affected was the master suite, THANK GOD. Living through a renovation while pregnant and raising puppies (our female lab had 5 adorable puppies, you can watch videos of their cuteness on my YouTube channel, anyways,) is no fun to say the least.

BUT...

We basically got to remodel our house and choose new floorings throughout the house, fresh paint on all the walls and baseboards (except the master suite). Shortly after our disaster, we also sold everything from the guest bedroom so Little Love's room is a blank slate for us.

The color we chose for the walls, is a very soft subtle pink.

BEHR My Sweetheart

On my computer screen, this color looks more on the beige/tan side but I promise it's pink. At least in our house and lighting, its pink. When we first found out about Little Love, I did NOT want to do the typical pink for a girl or blue for a boy type of thing. I wanted the room to be colorful to help stimulate the baby's interest and eyesight. The very first image I fell across, I fell in love and knew this would be the inspiration for our baby's room no matter the gender.

What I Wore

I loved how the neutral grays and white played so beautifully with all the colors. However, the quilt stood out the most and I immediately began looking for the source which Jessica from What I Wore revealed she made the quilt herself in her Nursery Plans post. I am not any where near that talented so I began my search of finding someone to make one similar for us. At this point, I wanted the binding and backing of our quilt to be blue for a boy and pink for a girl so we waited until our Gender Reveal before I finally submitted a custom order to Melinda at Ink And Thread Quilts. Which our quilt has the pink binding and backing since Little Love is a little girl (ehh I still can't believe, in approx. 3 months I will be momma to a little girl). And that's also when I chose pink for the walls. Once we found out, I couldn't help having the image of having soft pink walls in the nursery.
